How do we go about requesting the list of agencies and their clients from actor's equity?

Kim's Answer: Hi Madison!! If you are a member, you can get the list of franchised agencies on their website :) If you are not, you can call and ask or stop by the building in NYC or regional office. I hope this helps. Also, side note to this. If you have a close friend who is aea and you aren't you can ask them to get it for you at their office or on the website

Hi Kim. What do you send in a follow up when you have very little or nothing to report? The best I have from the past month is emailing back and forth with a Broadway producer who said I had a great background and fit for the reading they they were casting, though I didn’t get the audition.

Kim's Answer: Hi! congrats on that back and forth> Super exciting and thats a win despite not getting the audition. I'd probably mention that.. ie "You had a great back and forth via email with a broadway producer about being considered for a reading they were doing." Maybe too you can always do a website update or add a new performing video to it and/or mention that. the basics always work. remember this is just a reminder to them. you don't need to get to deep.

When you're sending follow-ups/updates to potential reps, would you include that you've had auditions/interviews with other reps?

Kim's Answer: Unless you get an offer from one and are awaiting word on another and need to tell them you did so you can get some sort of response i don't think it's necessary. Along the same lines, a lot of times if you are freelancing with one you don't need to tell the other you have other rep. Until you are signed it is a non-issue. I Hope this helps!

Another Question--what is the best subject line for email submissions? (Rather than a generic "Seeking Representation")

Kim's Answer: Hi! i don't recommend getting clever. Just get to the point. I would add your name and maybe your branding and/or union into there. So if it were me I would say "Re: REPRESENTATION-KIMBERLY GREENBERG (your Sassy NY Broad- AEA/SAG-AFTRA) Hope this helps. :)

Hi Kimberly! I was wondering what you think about some of the agencies that say they want headshot/résumé and reels by mail only? On the list from Backstage the details will not how agencies preferred to be contacted, but even for those that say "mail only" they will also have the agencies' email addresses. It seems so dated to me to send it through snail mail as opposed to email. Is it still recommended to just use the mail? Do they want reels on a CD? How else would you send it in mail? I just figure if there’s an email listed I could send it by email. Is that recommended? What has been your experience? Thanks!

Kim's Answer: Hi Sharon! Great question! So anytime you find these agent lists on line you have to take all the information with a grain of salt. Much of it is out of…

Hi Kim!!! Finally getting to this, i feel like i have pushed this step aside out of fear but it is time for me to attack my career! i feel like i am torn between two very strong types and i am struggling .do i need to chose one? or do i try to find a happy middle?

Kim's Answer: Leigh! I’m so happy to see you here!! I know you just started the course. Huzzah! What I will recommend is that You listen through the branding portion of this course. I “think” all will be clear from that portion once you get to it. Don’t jump ahead though. Best to take the modules in the order given. Again when you get through the branding I think all will be answered. If you are still confused, not to worry, post another comment in that module and I will help You…

With the market reopening up in NYC I have really dived into trying to find commercial representation. The challenge these days is that most agents are continuing to work from home. Do you think they would ever get something sent in mail or a voicemail left in the office? How would you suggest following up in COVID world if my initial reach out was through email?

Kim's Answer: Hiya! Good questions. So obviously im sure everyone situation is different and most ARE probably working from home..however with that said, im sure they are checking voice-mails (as their work phone numbers for the most part wouldn't change (So i think a phone message is a great way to go). I also think email is a great way to go (But know if may end up in spam so then a phone call may be in order) . i would also assume…

So, if I acquire management and my band does a a gig, do they get a commission off that gig? And also, does said manager collect commission for work you do out of state as well (if you work different markets--NY/BOS for example)?

Kim's answer: It is something you can negotiate contract wise..s it would need to be discussed with them. However with that said, keep in mind that if the Manager is truly acting as a "manager" and not being an "agent" under manager guise (which happens in the non-union world where they are more so only acting as an "agent" to submit clients for jobs) then more then likely YES you would have to pay them a commission as its performing career related and they are helping to manage your career as a whole. quite potentially even help you elevate in that realm as well.
