The Beginning of Broadway: A Vaudeville Revue
FOR KIDS (15 AND UNDER):
Recommended for ages 15 and under. Duration and pricing can be customized to meet the needs of your group.
Today, audiences flock to Broadway hits like Wicked, Les Misérables, and Matilda. But long before these spectacular productions took the stage, America's most popular form of entertainment was Vaudeville—a fast-paced world of singers, dancers, comedians, novelty acts, and larger-than-life personalities.
In this interactive performance workshop, acclaimed actress, Fabulous Fanny Brice star and author of Lights! Camera! Vaudeville!, Kimberly Faye Greenberg transports students back to the early 1900s to explore the exciting roots of Broadway through the eyes of legendary entertainer Fanny Brice.
Students will discover what life was like for performers on the vaudeville circuit, where success depended on creativity, imagination, and the ability to create a unique act using only simple costumes, props, and talent.
The workshop begins with a live vaudeville performance demonstration featuring songs, stories, and comedy inspired by Fanny Brice. Students will then learn a fun, accessible movement routine suitable for all experience levels.
Next comes the creative challenge! Each participant receives a prop and a surprise character identity, then uses their imagination to develop a one-of-a-kind vaudeville act. Students will combine movement, storytelling, comedy, and character work as they prepare for their big debut.
The workshop culminates in a lively mock Vaudeville Revue, where every student gets a chance to showcase their original creation and experience the excitement of performing before an audience.
Part theatre history, part creative drama, and part performance experience, this engaging workshop encourages confidence, collaboration, creativity, and self-expression while introducing students to the fascinating beginnings of Broadway.
